Safety Knowledge Based System

      Disclosed is a system for designing parts, components,
and products to comply with internal, national, and international
safety standards.

      International safety certification requires compliance to over
4000 individual, specific design requirements. Although each
requirement is unique, compliance alternatives, in many areas of the
standards, can impact or eliminate other compliance alternatives
throughout the standards.  Additionally, basic overall design
approaches dictate which compliance alternatives are applicable.
Subsequently, the task of ensuring overall compliance, while
considering all compliance/design variables, is reserved for safety
"experts" or independent industry/government agencies, such as
Underwriters Laboratories or Canadian Standards Authority (UL/CSA).

      This system gives design alternatives based on interaction with
design inputs and known, established internal compliance
relationships.

      This system will retain all inputs and generate appropriately
formatted compliance reports for submission to agencies.

      At the machine or product level, choosing "Class I," for
example, causes the system to automatically answer "N/A" to all
design questions pertaining to Class II or Class III and those
requirements would NOT be displayed during product level compliance
report generation, or test requirement generation.  Similarly,
choosing "Pluggable Type A, Detachable" would eliminate all
parameters specific to the other means of "Connections to Supply".
