Compact Portable Smart Card Functional Attachments

      Disclosed is a compact portable device, easily attached to and
detached from the smart card, to enhance its functionalities.

      In the near future, the smart card will become very popular and
almost every person will carry one in his pocket.  The basic idea of
this invention is the compact portable functional devices, into or
from which  the smart card can easily be attached or detached, to
input or output temporary or permanent information into or from the
smart card. These  compact portable smart card functional attachments
can have micro controller or Java-based microprocessor along with
different kinds of memory embedded in it.  With these compact
portable functional attachments, the smart card can be transformed
into a personal compact  portable memory device to store both
permanent or temporary information,  as well as to transport and
compare information in the field.

      They can be supplied in video stores, department stores,
supermarkets and other consumer outlets, doctor offices, hospitals,
schools and other public places.  One can also carry his own personal
compact portable smart card functional attachments with him.

      One example is a compact portable bar code scanner smart card
attachment with a display, as shown in the Figure.  The consumer can
attach the smart card to this bar code scanner attachment to see if
the desired movie rental is one which has not been seen...
