Electronic Diary

Electronic Diaries and Personal organizers are widely used to
keep track of appointments, key events and activities.  They are also
often used as a permanent personal record.  All information is
recorded by the individual concerned or by those who have authorized
access.

The improved system described here permits electronic diary
information to be automatically supplemented by additional
date-related information that is relevant to the individual
concerned.

The improvement has three key aspects.  First, the electronic
diary is held on any device that is also capable of establishing
access to the Internet, or can access data from the Internet.
Second, each date is associated with a Java Applet or a Unique Record
Locator which  provides a means for accessing a particular WWW page
that contains information related to that date and pointers, or
search facilities, to  other Internet resources with date-related
information.  Third, the diary  user may enter specific topics or key
words against any day to drive a  search to access appropriate
date-related information.  This information  may be related to
Weather, travel, News, public events or anything else  chosen by the
user.

The information is regularly and automatically refreshed at
intervals chosen by the user.  For future dates, the information
accessed may be the weather forecast, major events due to happen on
that day, planned roadworks for example.  ...
