Method for Programming a Video Cassette Recorder via Web-TV and World
Wide Web Pages

Disclosed is a method where the user would go to a TV listing
web page similar to www.tvguide.com.  From here, the user would surf
the TV grid selecting a desired show.  On the page describing the TV
show, the user would select the "Program the VCR" button from this
screen.

The button would start a Java application on the Web-TV
device.  This Java application would  extract the VCR plus number for
the TV program selected.  The VCR plus number contains the
information on when and where the TV program will air.

The Web-TV device would send the VCR plus number to the VCR
through an infrared (IR) generator such as a cable mouse.  The VCR
plus compatible VCR would take this information and setup a recording
event.
