Abstract

To assist system administrators and end users with the task of modifying and creating Java locales, a graphical Java locale builder is provided. The Graphical Java Locale Builder is an extension to the OS/2* Country object in Warp* 4.0. The Locale Builder also takes the place of the XPG4 localedef utility. This utility allows users to configure commonly used locale fields quickly and easily without the need of a compiler or linker. Fields in the locale are updated graphically and consistent with the Java programming environment.

Dynamic Update of Java Locales

To assist system administrators and end users with the task of
modifying and creating Java locales, a graphical Java locale builder
is provided.  The Graphical Java Locale Builder is an extension to
the OS/2* Country object in Warp* 4.0.  The Locale Builder also takes
the place of the XPG4 localedef utility.  This utility allows users
to configure commonly used locale fields quickly and easily without
the need of a compiler or linker.  Fields in the locale are updated
graphically and consistent with the Java programming environment.

The Locale Builder also serves as a locale change
palette.  Users are presented a set of locales as icons, and can drag
and drop locale objects onto aware applications signaling them to
change their locale and or language.  Changes to locale definitions
are immediate, allowing applications to exploit the newly defined
Java locales without a reboot.  Applets or applications that are
currently using a redefined Java locale may continue to do so or may
refresh their  locale to obtain the latest definition.
