Abstract

Disclosed is a method for LCD (Liquid Crystal display) signal timing/waveform optimization by expanding LCD-ID definition and adjusting driveability. The most of conventional mechanism for LCD signal timing/waveform optimization is performed by two parameters, which are system board termination and LCD interface cable damper (see Fig. 1). An LCD-ID is used for the recognition of LCD panel type and LCD panel resolution.

A Method for LCD Signal Timing Setting

      Disclosed is a method for LCD (Liquid Crystal display) signal
timing/waveform optimization by expanding LCD-ID definition and
adjusting driveability.  The most of conventional mechanism for LCD
signal timing/waveform optimization is performed by two parameters,
which are  system board termination and LCD interface cable damper
(see Fig. 1). An  LCD-ID is used for the recognition of LCD panel
type and LCD panel resolution.

      According to the subject invention, the third parameter, which
is an LCD signal driveability of LCD controller, is added.  The
LCD-ID definition to add LCD module maker is expanded.

      Fig. 2 shows the block diagram embodying this invention.  The
value of system board termination is selected so as to meet the LCD
signal timing specifications, roughly.  It is because System board
supports limited LCD panel types/LCD panel resolutions/LCD module
makers.  The value of LCD interface cable damper and LCD signal
driveability is selected so as to adjust LCD signal timing/waveform
for each LCD panel.  System board termination and LCD interface cable
damper are assembled by manufacturer.  The system BIOS (Basic
Input/Output System) recognizes LCD type/LCD resolution/LCD module
maker by reading  LCD-ID.  The LCD signal driveability selection is
set by system BIOS according to LCD-ID.  Therefore one system board
can supports many LCD  panels.
