Abstract

Disclosed is a device to decrease the power consumption of receiver and the net which is connected to this receiver. There is one method that receiver output is cut(disabled) when it is not necessary. But in that method, receiver output is forced to "low" or "high" value when the output is cut. And some times it makes unnecessary switching by forcing receiver output. This paper describes improved low power receiver which cuts the receiver output with the value previously driven. In another word, this receiver holds the output value when receive function is disabled.

        Disclosed is a device to decrease the power consumption of
receiver and the net which is connected to this receiver.  There is
one method that receiver output is cut(disabled) when it is not
necessary.  But in that method, receiver output is forced to "low" or
"high" value when the output is cut.  And some times it makes
unnecessary switching by forcing receiver output.  This paper

        It is required to develop more low power LSI in portable PC
in particular.  The power consumption is calculated by following
formula.
         P=C*Asw*V*V
           C:    net capacitance
           Asw: switching times of the net
           V:    Voltage

  It is necessary that net capacitance and switching times should be
decreased to reduce the power consumption.  And power consumption of
input/output devices are the one of the biggest portion of LSI's
power.  So there is one method to decrease the power consumption by
cutting receivers output when it is not necessary to propagate.  In
general the net which is connected to receiver output is switched
together when receiver input value changes even if it is not
