Abstract

(BACKGROUND) A new personal computer (PC) mother board regulation, so-called ATX, or new type Work stations (WS) have intelligent power supply. In these PC/WS, it is impossible to control PC/WS power only by cut and connect AC supply. These PC/WS have momentary switches instead of latch type switch. So user can't stay the switch on.

UPS Having Contact Point Output for Controlling PC/WS

   (BACKGROUND)

A new personal computer (PC) mother board regulation,
so-called ATX, or new type Work stations (WS) have intelligent power
supply.  In these PC/WS, it is impossible to control PC/WS power only
by cut and connect AC supply.  These PC/WS have momentary switches
instead of latch type switch.  So user can't stay the switch on.

   (EXAMPLE OF STRUCTURE)

   *Power ON Procedure
  1.  AC supply start.
  2.  Wait about 3-5 sec for wake up the power supply.
  3.  Output DO for switch emulation.

   *Power OFF Procedure
  1.  Shutdown request via 232C or the ethernet.
  2.  Confirm the shutdown complete.
  3.  Do signal output for switch emulation, then PC power is off.
  4.  Wait 3-5 sec for power supply switch off procedure complete.
  5.  Stop AC supply.

   (MERIT)

If UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) can control
the switch emulation DO linked with AC (Alternation Current) supply,
ATX or newer PS/WS can be controlled well.
