Abstract

A separate vibration unit with an wireless data interface is disclosed. A conventional separate vibration unit only notifies a user of an incoming call to wireless telephone with vibration instead of sound. A small power RF communication unit (local RF unit) is needed to transfer signals between a separate vibration unit and a wireless telephone and the conventional separate vibration unit uses this local RF unit only for the notification of call reception to the user.

Separate Vibration Unit Extension Mechanism

A separate vibration unit with an wireless data interface is
disclosed.  A conventional separate vibration unit only notifies a
user of an incoming call to wireless telephone with vibration
instead of sound.  A small power RF communication unit (local RF
unit) is needed to transfer signals between a separate vibration
unit and a wireless telephone and the conventional separate
vibration unit uses this local RF unit only for the notification of
call reception to the user.

Using the local RF unit, the disclosed separate vibration
unit works not only as said conventional separate vibration unit but
also as an wireless modem with a PC/PDA attachment to enable data
communication between a network and a personal computer (PC) via the
wireless telephone.  The separate vibration unit provides the PC with
data interface like RS-232C or USB and relays the data to/from the
wireless telephone using the local RF unit.  The separate vibration
unit also provides data synchronization (telephone address etc.)
between the PC and the wireless telephone for the data communication
(see Fig. 1).

The separate vibration unit also has an indicator to notify
the user of the type of the incoming call, i.e. it notifies whether
the incoming call is a data communication call or a voice
communication call.  As immediate response is needed for user only
when the wireless telephone receives a voice communication call, the
user can avoid wastefu...
