Abstract

Disclosed is a vehicle child safety interlock. The device consists of a sensor placed in the operator's seat of a vehicle which detects the weight of the operator of the vehicle. The sensor output is coupled to the ignition of the vehicle in such a manner that if the weight of the operator falls below a preset lower limit the vehicle becomes inoperable. For example if the lower weight limit is set at 80 pounds, a child weighing 50 pounds will not be able to operate the vehicle. Alternatively as an added security feature, an acceptable weight range, or a set of acceptable weight ranges, may be specified to so as to allow only authorized operators to operate the vehicle.
