Urethane Rubber Actuator Lock with Rotary Magnet

   Disclosed is an actuator locking mechanism in a hard disk
drive.  The actuator lock is consist of a holder, a magnet case and a
magnet as shown in the Figure.

The holder is made of urethane rubber and its visco-elasticity makes
it possible to realize higher shock resistance and prevent cracks or
breaks of it.

   And, to maintain high shock resistance, the magnet is able
to rotate in the holder according to the motion of the iron-chip
attached to the edge of the actuator.  The magnet is in the magnet
case made of liquid crystal polymer in order to avoid a contact
between metals.  A hard disk drive with this actuator lock is able to
resist rotary shock of approx. 34000 {rad/s2} at 1.0 {ms} duration.
