Abstract

Disclosed is a method to repair LCD defects. The storage capacitor, the defective areas and the TFT of defective pixel is cut and the pixel electrode is jointed to the adjacent normal pixel. As the defective pixel shows the same color as the adjacent normal pixel with this method, the defective pixel behaves as a normal pixel.

Jointed Pixel Laser Repair

   Disclosed is a method to repair LCD defects.  The storage
capacitor, the defective areas and the TFT of defective pixel is cut
and the pixel electrode is jointed to the adjacent normal pixel.  As
the defective pixel shows the same color as the adjacent normal pixel
with this method, the defective pixel behaves as a normal pixel.

   As a pixel shows the very similar color as the
surroundings, it decreases the recognition rate of the defect to
show the same color as the adjacent pixel.  But connecting the
defective pixel electrode and the adjacent electrode, as the
defective pixel and the connected normal pixel are affected by two
TFTs, two storage capacitors and the defective areas, the pixel does
not show the correct voltage level because of the polarity inversion,
compensation method, pixel charging shortage or the defective causes.

   To show the correct image in the said jointed pixels,
  (1) The defective areas must be cut to get rid of the
      defective causes.  The cut is done by laser.
  (2) One of the TFTs must be cut, as the polarity inversion
      drive supplies the different polarity of the voltages to
      the jointed two TFTs.  Laser carries out the TFT cut.
  (3) One storage capacitor that is not in the pixel of the
      driving TFT must be cut not to supply the feed-thru
      voltage compensation voltage or the effective voltage
      compensation voltage at the wrong timing to dri...
