Abstract

Disclosed is to decide the reassign reason which is caused by media or the others and to memorize it to a flag "non-media-flag" in non volatile memory or disk. Setting non-media-flag indicates that the reassignment was caused by a reason other than media problem.

Reassign Roll Back Referring Non-media-reason Flag

Disclosed is to decide the reassign reason which is
caused by media or the others and to memorize it to a flag
"non-media-flag" in non volatile memory or disk.  Setting
non-media-flag indicates that the reassignment was caused by a
reason other than media problem.

To identify the reason of reassignment, the drive tries
to do write/read test for the other position of the same disk
surface in which the reassign is caused.  and non-media-flag is set
if the test failed because failing on two position on same surface
shows the high possibility which reassign reason is not related to
media.

Drive cancels the reassign when host issue write command
including these reassigned sectors which non-media-flag is set.
There is no risk to cancel this reassign because non-media-flag show
that this reassign is caused by the other reason except media, for
example, vibration or altitude.

It cause performance degradation to perform reassign
cancel without non-media-flag because drive have to test every
reassigned sectors when drive accesses them.
