Graphical User Interface Indicating On-Screen Elements Having Associated
Speech Commands

Disclosed is a method for displaying a computer screen
including a number of elements which are associated with speech
commands.

A semitransparent grid overlays the information of the
display screen, with each square of the grid structure being
associated with identifiers, such as an alphabetic sequence
extending in one direction and a numeric sequence extending in a
direction perpendicular to that of the alphabetic sequence.  Each
grid square overlaying an element associated with a speech command is
highlighted, so that a user of the system can rapidly recognize the
locations of elements having associated speech commands.
Furthermore, if the user cannot cause the execution of a desired
function using one of the speech commands, he can speak the letter
and number identifying the grid spot overlaying the desired command.
