Abstract

Disclosed is a new method for small device like Personal Digital Assistance to display Software Keyboard on its screen, that is to display plural devided Software Keyboard on it. Our method makes it possible for the users to input many kinds of characters with few operations than ever.

Devided Software Keyboard

   Disclosed is a new method for small device like Personal
Digital Assistance to display Software Keyboard on its screen, that
is to display plural devided Software Keyboard on it.  Our method
makes it possible for the users to input many kinds of characters
with few operations than ever.

   Most of software keyboard for small device is displayed
as singular one.  And this is always required to be small, and to be
easy to input many kinds of characters.  So, most of software
keyboard has many modes, such as number, alphabet, hiragana
characters(for Japanese), kanji chatacters and, etc.  When the
software keyboard is in alphabet mode, it consists of alphabet-keys
and control-keys that is like Enter-key, BackSpace-key and
Insert-key.  And when the software keyboard is in hiragana mode, it
consists of hiragana-key and control-keys.  Thus the keys on the
software keyboard is separated into two part, characterset-keys (like
alphabet-keys, hiragana-keys, kanji-keys) and control-keys.  So when
the mode is changed, the area of characterset-keys on software
keyboard is replaced to the new mode's characterset-key (shown in
figure 1).  And this requires users to operate one extra step, like
pushing mode-change-key.  In the case that an user want to input
alphabet and hiragana alternately, this mode change operation
requires the user to take much effort and time.
