Abstract

Disclosed is the circuit design technique to improve performance of single end static sense amplifier. Most of the mask ROMs do not have Truth and Complement Bit lines. They just have one rail bit line. When a differential sense amplifier is used, a reference circuit should be used. The reference circuit is operated by DC power in general. The differential circuit should be activated fairly long time of the cycle if faster access time is required. It will dissipate more DC power to achieve the fast access time. In order to activate the differential sense amplifier to reduce the power, timing design becomes more difficult. If the reference circuit is activated only when the circuit is required to reduce DC current, the timing design must be done carefully.

performance of single end static sense amplifier.  Most of the mask

   Inverter as a single rail amplifier does not require
reference circuit.  The inverter works only at transient time and can
be shut off after a sense operation.  So, the inverter is beneficial
to achieve low power sense amplifier circuit.  But, the inverter is
small gain primary because of it takes time to flip the next inverter
stage.

   Fig.1 is the block diagram of the circuit.  Fig.2 is the
example of the inverter sense amplifier with performance improved.
By the proposed circuit technique, the second stage of inverter
amplifier becomes fast to sense.
