Abstract

A Program is disclosed that smooth 3D Data drawing in Model rotation/moving via dynamic data reductions by changing its rendering mode. This program switches to wire-frame representation mode in rotation/moving, this mode is 10-100 times faster than polygon-fill (shaded) image drawing. A refresh time of a large 3D model in rendering mode is 30sec-5mins. This time is too large for interactive operations. But in wire-frame mode, this refresh time becomes 0.5-3sec. The disclosed program switches dynamically (rendering mode <-> wire-frame mode) in model rotation or moving. (Generally, rendering image require 10-100 times CPU/graphic performance than wire-frame image.

mode in rotation/moving, this mode is 10-100 times faster than
polygon-fill (shaded) image drawing.  A refresh time of a large 3D
model in rendering mode is 30sec-5mins.  This time is too large for
interactive operations.  But in wire-frame mode, this refresh time
becomes 0.5-3sec.  The disclosed program switches dynamically
(rendering mode <-> wire-frame mode) in model rotation or moving.
(Generally, rendering image require 10-100 times CPU/graphic
performance than wire-frame image.)  Mouse operation triggers this
switch dynamically (for example, in CATIA middle mouse button press
following right mouse button press starts rotation and mouse button
release stops rotation).  The disclosed program can use these mouse
operations as the switch.  The disclosed program consists of our
research result that the CAD operators has very small interest in the
image quality when they rotate/move CAD models.  They have much
larger interest in the fast refresh of data drawing.  When the CAD
operators are interested in the image quality, it is simple to turn
off dynamic viewing mode change program.  To achieve our inventions,
we added 3 statements into the normal display functions.
