Dynamic Property Evaluation in Virtual Market Places

Disclosed is a solution for evaluating properties used
to describe dynamic aspects of product descriptions in virtual
market places.  The solution disclosed uses an evaluation engine
capable of executing scripts which describe the computational
algorithm to be exercised for evaluating the dynamic property.

Products advertised in virtual market places are
represented as a set of properties.  Some of those properties are
static, that is their value is known a advertising time, others are
dynamic, which means that their values must be determined when
matching an incoming query.  Queries are processed by match-making
facilities which filter the matching products according the
constraint represented by the query.  Existing standards only specify
the interfaces which have to be offered by components implementing
the evaluation algorithm for dynamic properties (1, 2, 3) Hard-coding
these algorithms is unfortunate, as components cannot be reused and
are difficult to modify, and programming knowledge is required from
the person who is responsible for advertising products.

The disclosed solution uses a Dynamic Property Evaluation
Engine (DPE Engine) instead of hard-coding evaluation algorithms.
The algorithm needed for evaluating a dynamic property is described
in terms of a scripting language which can be executed by the DPE
Engine.  Dynamic Properties are specified by their type, name, script
name and parameters required f...
