Abstract

Disclosed is a program that exposes all local file requests and the matching File Index Table (FIT) file mappings on an OS/2 system. Any file request made by the system will be shown with it's full local path, the open mode (readonly readwrite), the corresponding FIT mapping and the result of the operation.

Local File to FIT File Viewer

Disclosed is a program that exposes all local file
requests and the matching File Index Table (FIT) file mappings on an
OS/2 system.  Any file request made by the system will be shown with
it's full local path, the open mode (readonly readwrite), the
corresponding FIT mapping and the result of the operation.

The program consists of two parts.  The first part is
responsible for retrieving the information and the second part can
present the information in a more meaningful way to the user.  Each
part is a separate executable; fittrc.exe and fitpm.exe respectively.

Fittrc.exe utilizes the OS/2 Dynamic Trace Facility
(DTrace) to help it gather the necessary information.  First it
determines which version of OS/2 is currently running and then it
places the necessary trace points into memory via DTrace.  With the
trace points in place, all file opens will pass through those trace
points and information will be logged to a memory buffer.  Fittrc.exe
wakes up every sub-second to retrieve any information logged to the
buffer.  The information is quickly processed into an ascii readable
string and presented to the screen.  If this presentation is
acceptable to the user nothing more is needed.  Also note that the
output can be redirected to a file for later viewing.

The second part, fitpm.exe, takes the output from
fittrc.exe in two ways.  It can load a file saved by fittrc.exe or
can receive live information straight from fit...
