Abstract

Disclosed is a system that allows the student to select material presentation format and the testing format in a on-line web based training course. During the development of the web based training course, multiple forms of material presentation and testing formats will be prepared. Example of formats presented to the student include crossword puzzles, word search and column matching. This system allows the student to pick the format best suited to their learning method.

Disclosed is a system that allows the student to select the presentation format for portions of an on-line web based training course which require user interaction. This applies to sections like small quizzes or tests given at the end of a section or tests given at the end of the course. The objective of this system is to provide varying formats for the presentation of the material so that the students can pick the format best suited to their learning needs.

Steps:

Course Development:
1. The course designer manually identifies the portions of the course that can be presented in varying formats.
2. For the identified portions of the course, meta information is inserted to provide supplemental information which is needed to generate the output in the varying formats. For example, besides the right answer, alternate answers are provided for generating multiple choice question-answer format.
3. Encodes a list of formats which a student can choose from.

Course Presentation:
1. While viewing the on-line course material, the student is presented with a list of formats to choose from to view the information.
2. The student picks a format best suited to their learning style.
