Distributed Personal Computer System
The "Distributed Personal Computer System" (DPCS) provides a new type of (personal) computers with novel computer components interaction.
The basic idea of the DPCS is the "decoupled arrangement" of the computer components. This results in a huge flexibility and the possibility of providing "performance power on demand" as hardware service.
The fixed components to be decoupled are basically the following : - Server-Component hardware not used for storing permanent data: CPU, display adapter, etc. - Client-Component hardware used for storing permanent data: hard disk, USB memory stick, etc.
Two main advantages result from this design: - Flexibility:
The client component (hard disk, USB memory stick, etc.) is normally very small (much smaller than a laptop) and stores all data (operating system and application data). Therefore this component is very flexible and mobile. It can be connected to a specified server component "on demand". - Dynamic performance power "on demand":
The server component can be specified dynamically and provides the needed performance power on demand.
Only when both components are connected, a working computer system is created on demand. Several "service providers" can provide server components for the "on demand use".
It is possible to access the own computer environment consisting of operating system and application data anytime, anywhere. In addition to this the performance power can be selected dynamically.
The "Distributed Personal Computer System" (DPCS) describes an elementary change of the computer system. It requires a rethinking of the use of personal computer systems. It does not assume that the components of a computer system are fix connected representing one undividable unit. DPCS provides a very flexible computer architecture with unforeseen possibilities and chances for the future.
The aim of the idea is to make the fix connected components dynamic . It does not mean the possibility to connect components dynamically inside one computer system only to create virtual machines.
Today the personal computer (PC) represents a fixed unit. It consists of mainboard, CPU, display adapter, hard disk, etc. When changing one component of the system, often a major modification of the operating system and driver software is required.
It is not easy to use the "whole" software environment as "mobile" part independent of the hardware components . Therefore it is hard to access the own computer environment consisting of operating system and application data anytime , anywhere independent of the provided hardware.
