Method to resize a window using the optional mouse wheel .

Proposed is a software method to extend the flexibility of a mouse selection wheel to allow for the resizing of a window under a graphical user interface (GUI). The mouse selection wheel can interface with new hooks of a GUI such that it allows lists to be scrolled through one element at a time in a pull down list. The GUI would be extended with new hooks in the GUI such that the wheel would allow a window under the control of the GUI to grow and shrink based on the movement of the selection wheel.

The proposed method would include new hooks in the GUI to accept input from the mouse wheel. These hooks would provide for resizing the x and y axis of the window. When the mouse is over the x axis the x axis would grow and shrink in response to the movement of the mouse wheel. Likewise when the mouse is over the y axis the y axis would grow and shrink in response to the movement of the mouse. When the mouse is over the corner of a window this would allow for growing and shrinking both the x and y axis based on the mouse movement. The GUI, and in some cases the application under the GUI, would accept the input from the hooks to direct the resizing of the window.

Thus the proposed would allow for extending the flexiblity of a mouse selection wheel to allow for the resizing of a window under the control of a GUI.
