Abstract

In the market today there are demands for soft-switches to replace existing hard-switches. In the past hard-switches contained monolithic software, which was tightly coupled with specialized hardware. The Proxy Gateway Signaling Server (PGSS) is a Call Agent composed of multi-protocols used to establish Switch Virtual Circuits (SVC) in an ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) network. The Proxy Gateway Signaling Server architecture is ideal for solving circuit starvation between Central Offices by providing a Voice over ATM solution. The Proxy Gateway Signaling Server is used for a Voice over ATM solution. The Proxy Gateway Signaling Server is used for both Data and Voice and is composed of the following components: Manager: The Manager provides graphical representation for managing the Proxy Gateway Signaling Server. The Manager supplies facilities for fault management, configuration management, performance management, and security management. The Manager is a Java based GUI (Graphical User Interface) and communicates with the Database using CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture). Database: The Object Database maintains information for routing provisioning, ATM links, and SS7 links. The Object Database is tightly coupled with the Call Agent, allowing access to persistent objects.
