BladeCenter hardware is scarce, and communications switches are being developed by a large number of third-party suppliers. A means of testing these switches without BladeCenter chassis hardware must be developed. This invention will provide a means of realistically simulating conditions in the rear of the BladeCenter chassis, so that thermal testing can be performed with the confidence that results will reflect conditions inside the BladeCenter. Drawings of this test fixture can be forwarded to all third-party suppliers for them to fabricate and with which they can perform compliance thermal testing. This invention will save the cost of supplying each third-party supplier with a chassis of their own, as well as save engineering and testing time of engineers.

This invention will be a test fixture, inside of which will reside a communications switch. The fixture will be designed in such a way as to be reusable, that is, switches will be able to be installed, removed, and replaced. The design will also include air moving devices that, coupled with the geometry of the fixture itself, will create a realistic BladeCenter thermal environment for testing without the need to have an actual BladeCenter chassis on hand for use. It will be universal in nature in order to be usable for any switch designed by any third-party vendor.
