Abstract

This invention is a system that relates to text dictionaries on devices that incorporate predictive text. This invention attempts to reduce the occurrences of words that are not present in a predictive text dictionary. It serves to complement other methods of populating a predictive text dictionary by providing additional words that may be relevant to the user. When a user tries to use a word that is not in a predictive text dictionary, they are forced to change to a different mode of text entry for that word.

            This invention is a system that relates to text dictionaries on devices that incorporate predictive text. This invention attempts to reduce the occurrences of words that are not present in a predictive text dictionary.  It serves to complement other methods of populating a predictive text dictionary by providing additional words that may be relevant to the user.  When a user tries to use a word that is not in a predictive text dictionary, they are forced to change to a different mode of text entry for that word.

           

            By using knowledge of a user’s location and interests, text data could be added to the dictionary.  Local street names, businesses, and people’s names could be permanently added to a dictionary with periodic updates.  This information could come from GPS databases, electronic maps, and telephone directories.  When traveling, there could be a system that automatically loads information pertaining to the local area.  This information would then be removed at a later date, in order to reduce the device’s memory load.  Data related to personal interests (sports, television, stocks, automobiles) could also be automatically loaded and then removed (if necessary).  Data could be loaded on an ongoing basis as new movies, cars, etc. are released.  The data would likely come from websites and other sources.
