Abstract

The implementation of the circuit is an improvement of the Qualcomm recommended structure. The addition of two extra components (that would not include C409 or L404) significantly improves the noise performance of the transmitter. The invention is a filter which better removes IF noise that would be mapped into the radio’s RX (receive) band after up-conversion through the final mixer. The design offers the following advantages over Qualcomm’s: because both pole and a zero are used in the filter, the Q factor of the pole can be reduced to improve manufacturing yield without sacrificing the amount of noise rejection. Also, the improved filtering at IF allows for more relaxed specifications at RF where filtering is more difficult due to the reduced relative separation of the noise and signal components. Additionally, the structure allows the tank to be tuned from band to band with slightly less degradation in performance.
