System and Method of indicating a secure mode of operation
Government agencies would like its users to know when a device has entered into a secure mode of operation. In this context, a secure mode of operation is one in which the device has secure GC enabled. This can be enabled in many ways, and the government wants to ensure that their users can prove that it is enabled.
One can secure GC zero’s memory when it is no longer in use. This extra step can make the system sluggish, but more secure. Because of this, secure GC is not always enabled, and so it is important to indicate to the user when it is enabled. It is so when the user enables some of the advanced security features, including enabling content protection, installing the SMIME add-on package, installing the PGP add-on package, or when a third party application registers.
The solution shows an indicator when the device has entered into a secure mode of operation. The inventor(s) currently shows the indicator in the “security options” screen. The indicator is only shown then secure GC is turned on, but could also be shown when it is turned off. Indicator is currently the string “Secure GC Enabled,” but it could also be an icon. The icon could be located somewhere on the ribbon.
