Abstract

Stylus insertion and removal detection and subsequent interaction on a wireless device The stylus emulates the holster detection functions of other handheld communication devices. When a color touch screen device is in a default mode and the stylus is inserted into the device for storage, hardware detection triggers the device to go into battery saving mode. For device in interactive mode, the same use case can be applied – however, it is advisable that the behavior be user-settable. Features such as power on, LCD, and backlight on, going in and out of sleep, auto answer/auto hang up for phone calls, user configurable automatically invoked features on stylus removal can be implemented. Also, when the device is being charged the stylus detection can be disabled.
