Abstract

Stationary shafts, which are used in an oil environment such as in gearboxes, engines and transmissions, have usually a solid construction. However, it would be an advantage to use hollow shafts also in such constructions in order to reduce the weight of the constructions. The present invention relates to a locking device, which comprises an expanding screw member and a plate-like member. The expanding screw member is arranged to fix the end portion of a hollow shaft to the plate-like member in an expanded state such that the plate-like member covers an end opening of the hollow shaft. Consequently, the locking device provides both fastening of the hollow shaft to the plate-like member at the same time as it prevents oil from leaking out via the end opening of the hollow shaft.

Stationary shafts, which are used in an oil environment such as in gearboxes, engines and transmissions, have usually a solid construction. However, it would be an advantage to use hollow shafts also in such constructions in order to reduce the weight of the constructions.

The present invention relates to a locking device, which comprises an expanding screw member and a plate-like member. The expanding screw member is arranged to fix the end portion of a hollow shaft to the plate-like member in an expanded state such that the plate-like member covers an end opening of the hollow shaft. Consequently, the locking device provides both fastening of the hollow shaft to the plate-like member at the same time as it prevents oil from leaking out via the end opening of the hollow shaft.   

Fig. 1 shows a sectional view of an embodiment of a locking device 1 according to the invention. The locking device comprises a plate-like member 1 and an expanding screw member 2. The expanding screw member 2 comprises a screw 2a, which is mounted in a hole 1a of the plate-like member 1 such that its free end protrudes into the inner space of a hollow shaft 3. The expanding screw member 2 comprises a washer 2b and a nut 2c, which are fixedly connected to each other by means of, for example, a weld joint. The washer 2b and the nut 2c are mounted on the free end of the screw 2a inside the inner space of the hollow shaft 3. The washer 2b has a curved shape. The plate-like member 1 comprises an additional hole 1b in which a screw 4 is applicable for fastening of the plate-like member 1 to a suitable stationary element.
