Abstract

Components such as gear wheels in gearboxes are many times mounted on shafts by interference fit. Heavy vehicles are equipped with engines with higher and higher power. Thereby, the gearwheels in the gearboxes are exposed to larger and larger torque. The risk that the gearwheels get loose from the shafts increases. According to the invention, the component to be mounted on a shaft has a hub portion with a periphery surface. An annular recess is manufactured in the periphery surface of the hub portion. Thereafter, a pre-stressed music wire is winded round the hub portion in the recess. A music wire has a considerably higher yield point in tension than the material in the component. Thereby, the strength of a connection between the component and a shaft will be significantly higher with the use of such a winded music wire.

One possibility to solve this problem, it is to make a more firm interference fit in order to increase the strength of the firm connection between gearwheel and shaft. However, a too firm interference fit between gearwheel and shaft reduces the working life for the gearwheel. Another possibility, it is to use gearwheels provided with thicker hub portions. In many constructions, there is no space to use such gearwheels.

According to the invention, the component to be mounted on a shaft has a hub portion with a periphery surface. An annular recess is manufactured in the periphery surface of the hub portion. Thereafter, a pre-stressed music wire is winded round the hub portion in the recess. A music wire has a considerably higher yield point in tension than the material in the component. Thereby, the strength of a connection between the component and a shaft will be significantly higher with the use of such a winded music wire.
