(March 22, 1994) (NASDAQ:ADBE) -- Adobe Systems Incorporated today announced that 3M has introduced its Rainbow ™ desktop color proofing system software version 3.0 which incorporates Adobe ™ PostScript ™ Level 2 software. The software-based raster image processor (RIP) allows direct proofing from a personal computer to the 3M Rainbow desktop color proofing system. The Rainbow system lets graphic designers, art directors and prepress trade shops print accurate proofs of color layouts quickly and inexpensively. The Windows ™ version is expected to be available in the third quarter of 1994. 3M has announced plans to support Power Macintosh ™ systems.

Mountain View, Calif. (March 22, 1994) (NASDAQ:ADBE) -- Adobe Systems Incorporated today announced that 3M has introduced its Rainbow TM desktop color proofing system software

version 3.0 which incorporates Adobe TM PostScript TM Level 2 software. The software-based raster image processor (RIP) allows direct proofing from a personal computer to the 3M Rainbow desktop color proofing system. The Rainbow system lets graphic designers, art directors and prepress trade shops print accurate proofs of color layouts quickly and inexpensively. The Windows TM version is expected to be available in the third quarter of 1994.

3M has announced plans to support Power Macintosh TM systems.

The 3M Rainbow desktop color proofing system includes a dye sublimation proofer and proprietary software that controls the proofer from a print server. The system uses a computer- based implementation of Adobe s Configurable PostScript Interpreter (CPSI) technology, a PostScript Level 2 interpreter that resides in a host computer. With CPSI, the 3M Rainbow system effectively uses the processing power and memory capacity of the host environment to perform the PostScript language rasterization function typically done in a hardware controller embedded in a printer.
