Abstract

Mountain View, Calif. (September 14, 1994) (NASDAQ:ADBE) -- Adobe Systems Incorporated today announced that 3M has introduced the Windows ™ version of its Rainbow ™ desktop color proofing system, version 3.0, which incorporates Adobe ™ PostScript ™ Level 2 software. The software-based raster image processor (RIP) allows direct proofing from a PC running Windows to the 3M Rainbow desktop color proofing system. The Rainbow system is the first Windows-based application to use CPSI, and allows graphic designers, art directors and prepress trade shops to print accurate proofs of color layouts quickly and inexpensively. Rainbow software version 3.0 for Windows is being demonstrated at the Seybold Exposition in San Francisco, and is available now. The 3M Rainbow desktop color proofing system includes a dye sublimation proofer and proprietary software that controls the proofer from a print server. The system uses a computer-based implementation of Adobe s Configurable PostScript Interpreter (CPSI) technology, a PostScript Level 2 interpreter that resides in a host computer. With CPSI, the 3M Rainbow system effectively uses the processing power and memory capacity of the host environment to perform the PostScript language rasterization function typically done in a hardware controller embedded in a printer.
