Abstract

A program is disclosed that allows to discover the ?sense? of a Web user browsing, with or without user interaction. This ?categorization? of the browsing action is used to discover and propose a new set of Web sites that can be added to the preferred ones.

Sense browsing mode for multi-tabbed Internet browsers

What is the scenario?

Latest Internet browsers' generation (i.e. Mozilla, Firefox etc.) can use the 'one instance, more tab' way: a single window can manage multiple navigation tabs. The Web-surfer can use a multi home-page feature to define a static set of preferred home-pages; also he can dynamically enrich this home page set using an Interest Indicators analyzer extension : but what about the unknown Web sites which could be more remarkable for the user interest?

Using a common feature for these Internet browsers, it is possible to design a specific browser extension (a toolbar or a plug-in that we can call MyBrowserExtension-SB, MBE-SB from here) to discover the 'sense' of the current browsing, with or without user interaction.

This 'categorization' of the browsing action is used to discover and propose a new set of Web sites that can be added to the preferred ones.

Add a categorization to the home-pages set

Adding a logical state to the MBE-SB, from here defined 'Sense Browsing Mode' (SBM), it is possible to add a categorization level for a generic multi home-page set.

The SBM definition can be accomplished: - by the user, explicitly defining a label which depends of his personal judgment; - through a document categorization software (used to perform dynamical and background analysis on multi home-pages) which can propose the set of most relevant terms.

By defining different SBM, the user can switch his interests using a selector on the GUI like the following:
