A potential danger with driving while listening to a book reader system or a navigation system is that they don't know when they should pause or slow down the conversation relative to how much attention you should be directing to your driving.

By tapping into the car's knowledge of the surroundings, such as speed, turning, braking, turn signals, windshield wipers, and sound sensors, the book reader system or a navigation system could adjust its talking speed as well as being able to pause and adjust the volume based on what is happening on the road to allow the driver to more comfortably concentrate on driving when need be.  For example, when applying the brakes lightly or turning, the device could slow down the talking speed to allow the driver to give more attention to driving.  When there is a heavier application of the brakes such as slowing down from a high speed because of a traffic jam on a highway, the device could pause.  The turn signals could be used as an indication that the driver is likely to turn soon. Releasing pressure from the brake at a stand still could be a signal that the driver is getting ready to go.  When there is heavy rain outside, the maximum speed of the reading system could be reduced.  When the volume inside the car changes (e.g. driving...
