Abstract

The purpose of the t-set is to be able to set a packer hydraulically as is done now, but without the need to drop a setting ball into the pipe. It allows a crossover tool to be run into the hole and get on depth, then once on depth, pump fluid down the pipe until a pressure increase is seen. Once pressure is seen, begin packer setting instructions as they are now for specific packers. After the packer setting procedure is completed, pressure up on the pipe to a given pressure, and this allows the t-set to shift and become a "wet sump" inside of the crossover tool. This now is a tool ready to pump your gravel pack job. The novel feature that this has is its ability to set a packer with out dropping a ball or applying anything to the tool except pressure.
