Instance Messaging Heterogeneous Network Associated Buddylist

Every employee of a company today has an IM address which is typically their mail address such as myname@us.ibm.com. Employees can IM each other from any terminal connected via a network using a central server for these IM addresses; similar to mobile phones where you are located.

The problem is that this center server is not accessible when employees are gathered in a room with a customer and need to communicate, hence the ability to communicate peer to peer using Bluetooth needs to be available. Bluetooth identifies devices by BDA number which is quite secure.

The concept of IM should be device agnostic using the unique ID aforementioned such as myname@us.ibm.com. This disclosure states that we should employ a method or system in which the IM id has devices registered for that ID so such services that are used like bluetooth can identify the correct device and talk to them. These IDs are updated with the lose of a device as to invalidate devices bound to an IM address.
