Abstract

The invention is a server-based application that allows mobile devices to perform a word-by-word, spell-check of a draft message against a server-stored dictionary on messages. The application runs on the client-server model. The spell-check must be user-initiated via an option within the message composition drop-down menu. Once the user initiates this process for a message currently in the draft state, the handheld then requests data from the application/dictionary running on the respective server. The handheld application sends each word within the message draft over the wireless network, whereupon the server returns a series of possible matches/suggestions to the handheld. Having the bulk of the application stored on the server, this allows for a handheld application that uses very little hardware resources.
