Abstract

There are currently several laws in both the United States and Canada which dictate that handhelds need to be accessible to handicapped individuals. One specific area of concern with some mobile devices is the use of the thumbwheel and escape button. The proposed device would provide an alternate or auxillary mechanism for individuals who currently are unable to use the device based on a lack of dexterity with the thumb or finger to use the thumbwheel. Following are a few suggestions which can be implemented to replace a thumbwheel:
