PRINTER WITH WIRED, WIRELESS AND OTHER FEATURES,

AND ASSOCIATED METHODS AND APPARATUS

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTIONS

The present inventions will be described hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which some, but not all embodiments of the inventions are shown.  Indeed, these inventions may be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather, these embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will satisfy applicable legal requirements.  Like numbers refer to like elements throughout.

Throughout this Detailed Description section of this disclosure, "wired connection" and "wired communication" respectively refer to a connection and communication that exist along a physically connected path (e.g., along a wire or cable, or the like), as would be understood by those of ordinary skill in the art.  Likewise a "wired" device is a device that is operative for communicating over a wired connection via wired communication.   In contrast, a "wireless connection" and "wireless communication" respectively refer to a connection and communication that exist along a path without a physical connection (e.g., a path that is not constrained to a wire or cable, or the like), as would be understood by those of ordinary skill in the art.  Likewise a "wireless" device is a device that is operative for communicating over a wireless connection via wireless communication.

Selectively Communicating With Wired and Wireless Print Servers

Figure 1 schematically illustrates communications between devices, in accordance with a first embodiment of the present invention.  Specifically, a printer 20, which is preferably a printer for printing bar codes, is schematically illustrated as being operatively associated with both a wired print server 22 and a wireless print server 28.  The wired print server 22 preferably includes a wired network interface, or the like, and is for at least partially facilitating communication between the printer 20 and a computer 26, or the like, over a wired connection 24.  In contrast, the wireless print server 28, in conjunction with the wireless network card 30, or the like, is for at least partially facilitating communication between the printer 20 and a computer 34, or the like, over a wireless connection 32.  Each of the computers 26, 34 can be part of, or can be considered to be illustrative of, any type of device that can communicate with a printer.  For example, each of the computers 26, 34 can be part of, or can be considered to be illustrative of, one or more computer networks (e.g., local or wide area networks, the Internet, or the like).  Whereas two distinct computers 26, 34 are shown in Figure 1, it may be the case that either one of these computers may be equipped for both wired and wireless communications, such that both of the wired and wireless connec...
