Abstract

There is currently no wireless conduit for a mobile device to send/receive audio, video, keyboard input and or mouse signals, over a wireless network. On a personal computer (PC), one can use VNC (Virtual Node Computation) or RDC (Remote Desktop Connection), but nothing exists on a mobile device with a wireless connection. Consider the following: 1. VNC and RDC are available only for the High-Bandwidth Wired Computational Devices such as laptops and desktops. VNC’s and RDC’s rendering and signaling protocols require heavy CPU processing power and signalling over the control channels on the server side. 2. VNC and RDC reduce a lot of granularity of the remote screen layout. On occasion, streaming applications may fail on the client viewer. 3. The client host requires excessive configuration and computation power. 4. VNC and RDC require software installation and configuration on the client side. 5. VNC and RDC are not available for every different platforms and OS and have different versioning requirements on each platform. A proposed wireless conduit solution is as follows: • The keyboard, mouse and video driver signals and the data is sent over a Wireless Conduit Unit (mobile device) over the internet (wired and wireless) to project on the host – a nearby computational device. • The host device may be a desktop or laptop that is used by the user. • The user never carries their laptop or desktop computer. He/she simply borrows the desktop or laptop and connects it to the mobile device via a USB or Bluetooth connection to the host client. • The mobile device can be designed to provide video, mouse and keyboard input/output ports to exchange the information directly with the host computer, thereby eliminating any additional driver installations on the host clients. In this case, all the user requires is a monitor, keyboard and mouse. • A multi-port switch can be added to connections to ease connectivity issues. Furthermore, a Universal Port Connector can be used to exchange raw video data between the Wireless Conduit Unit and the Client Platform.
