IRC and instant messenger clients (like Sametime*, MSN** chat) are now a very common from of communication in a corporate environment, development community like the open source community, or among people keeping in touch with friends and family. Most chat clients and instant messenger clients offer the option to log conversations between two parties. This log maybe used to view the conversation that a user previously had with another party on the list or used for administrative or legal purposes. Often times a user would like to revisit information that was exchanged during a conversation with a certain party. Currently the chat clients or instant messengers provide a browser to read such logs or the user has to use an editor/viewer program to recall such logs. This invention describes a mechanism of displaying log information in a form box when the user places his mouse over the name of any party on the list of parties on his instant messenger or internet chat client. This provides the user quick access to the conversation previously had with a certain party on the list.
