Prerequisite for the method :
1. A computer has a global switch that can turn off or on all wireless devices incorporated to the system at the same time.
2. The global switch has two states. One is on. The other is off.
3. While the global switch is on, the power states of the each wireless devices are on or off according to the user software settings.
4. While the global switch is off, all wireless devices are off regardless of the user software settings.
5. There is an internal software interface to override the state of the global switch.

In the figure 1, the devices covered by the method are the bluetooth device, the wireless WAN device and the wireless LAN device. Users can configure the power setting of each devices individually from the application program or the BIOS setup program.

BIOS informs the embedded controller of the user power settings for the each devices. The embedded controller turns on or off the each devices according to the information from the BIOS while the global switch is on. Whereas, the embedded controller turns off all the devices regardless of the information from the BIOS while the global switch is off. The exception is the override request. BIOS can turn on each devices regardless of the global switch by asserting the override request.
