Abstract

Pass Through - There are multiple systems in a single gaming environment that use communications protocols specific to an individual system. In some cases, it is advantageous to be able to send messages from one isolated system to another system using a common means of communication. It may also be advantageous to be able to use an existing communication protocol such, as S2S, to route messages from multiple message sources to specific target translators that would remove the information specific to the transporting protocol, add the information specific to the target protocol and transmit the message to the target system. Problem Gaming - regulators, policy makers, and social groups across the US and abroad. Problem gambling is as global in its scope as gaming itself. The key in minimizing the effects of problem gambling is identifying the problem gambler or identifying certain characteristics in a gaming patron’s behavior that indicate a patron may be becoming a compulsive gambler. Once the patron has been identified, the gaming establishment may take action depending on the severity of the behavior. Interestingly enough, many of the behaviors that indicate that a patron may be becoming compulsive, are similar to behaviors that casino operators are looking for to identify “Hot Players” on their floors. Hot Player identification is important to casino operators as the operators can direct specific casino resources such as complimentary items or other special treatment to this type of customer. Because of the importance of the identification of Hot Players, new communications protocols being developed specifically provide operators with much more information about their gaming patrons and their patron’s gaming characteristics. The new information, originally intended to help casinos reward their most active players, can also be used to help casino operators identify and assist problem gamblers.

Title: Protocol Pass Through Capability in a Gaming Environment

Purpose (what problem is intended to solve):

There are multiple systems in a single gaming environment that use communications protocols specific to an individual system.  In some cases, it is advantageous to be able to send messages from one isolated system to another system using a common means of communication.  It may also be advantageous to be able to use an existing communication protocol such, as S2S, to route messages from multiple message sources to specific target translators that would remove the information specific to the transporting protocol, add the information specific to the target protocol and transmit the message to the target system.

Description (structural and functional):

Protocol Pass Through allows the messages of one protocol to be sent using the message structure of another protocol.  For the specific case of G2S and S2S, a “protocol pass through” would allow G2S commands to be passed between S2S hosts. 

To facilitate a protocol pass through, a client is used as a proxy between the two protocols.  The client receives information from protocol 1 and forwards the information to the required service server through protocol 2.  The client acts as the host for connections on protocol 1 and provides the acknowledgements and heartbeats and other necessary functions required to maintain proper operation for protocol 1.  The client functions as true client for protocol 2 as it requests services from the protocol 2 hosts.

Ramifications:

A single host can be provided that will service more than one protocol.  A single host results in a single source of information regarding that service.  An operation that, by the nature of the end entities involved in the operation, must have more than one protocol communicating with the end entities, may have a single point of consolidation for common services.

Novel features:
