Method for a spring-loaded vacuum clip manipulator

Disclosed is a method for a spring-loaded vacuum clip manipulator. Benefits include improved functionality, improved performance, and improved reliability.

Background

Improperly seated clips on a tray during pick up can damage the clips and leave residue in the trays. Additionally, the clips can cause damage to the chuck assembly at the spring removal module (SRM) when the tray is reloaded at the input elevator (see Figure 1).

Description

The disclosed method is a spring-loaded vacuum clip manipulator. The method includes a spring in each suction cup at manipulator assembly (see Figure 2).

The disclosed method can be verified using simulation. Results indicate 100% of the clips are picked up successfully without damage (see Figure 3).

Advantages

The disclosed method provides advantages, including:
•     Improved functionality due to providing a spring-loaded vacuum clip manipulator

•     Improved performance due to enabling 100% pick up of the clips when clips are unseated during pick up
