HID Fan Wrench

Disclosed is a method for a wrench that tightens or loosens screws or nuts in confined spaces using a linear movement. Benefits include reducing the HID fan replacement time to 15 minutes.

Background

Currently, there is a lengthy down time when replacing a failed HID cooling fan. The HID fan is often set in a location that is very difficult to access, due to its mounting screw and nut locations. A failed HID fan causes

FAB Clean Way

loops to shut down, and this stops wafer transfers in an operating FAB. Minimizing

Clean Way

down times is very critical to FAB operations.

The current method for changing the HID fan requires disassembling many other parts to gain access to the screws. This process usually takes more than two hours per fan.

General Description

The disclosed method is a wrench that tightens or loosens screws or nuts in confined spaces using a linear movement (see Figure 1). This wrench consists of:

§         A one-way clutch that allows only one-direction turning

§         A rack and pinion assembly that transfers linear motion to rotating motion

§         A push button that drives the rack and pinion assembly

§         A return spring that returns the push button to its starting point

§         A wrench body that holds all of the parts together

To use the disclosed method, a proper socket wrench or screw driver is inserted into the one way clutch,...
