Abstract

A method and system for providing automated voice warnings in medical equipments is disclosed herewith. The medical equipment or the patient is monitored for a situation and the risks involved in a particular situation are identified, based on the risks involved a warning message is selected from a database and the warning message is indicated. In an example the warning message is an audio message. The database may be generated in real time or could be pre-stored with different risk conditions and corresponding warning messages.

A METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING AUTOMATED VOICE WARNINGS IN MEDICAL EQUIPMENTS

FIELD OF INVENTION

[0001]               The invention generally relates to a patient care and more specifically to a method and system for providing automated voice warnings in medical equipments.

BACK GROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002]               There are different kinds of risks involved in patient preparation for medical diagnosis or medical treatment. For example, in case of an MRI operation, there are the risks from the pinch point between coil and magnet when patient table moves into magnet bore. In another example including MRI/CT, there could be risks from laser beam for patient location.

[0003]               It is essential to warn the caretaker or the patient about the risks involved in the operation of the medical equipment, so that appropriate care can be taken in advance. The risks involved in the operation are indicated as warnings. Usually the warning of these risks will be described in the operation manual or put warning label on the medical equipment. The indication about the warnings need to be understood by the operator and upon occurring a risk, the operator needs to identify the risks and judge the action to be taken with respect to the occurred risk. The operator may need to involve the patient as well in this analysis. However this is prone to different kinds of errors including understanding the manual wrongly or identifying the risk condition wrongly or taking an inappropriate action to the identified risk etc.

[0004]               Thus there exist a need to provide a method and system for providing automated voice warnings in medical equipments.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

[0005]               An embodiment of the invention provides a method and system for providing automated voice warnings in medical equipments. The method includes generating a database stored with different voice messages indicating different risk conditions. Upon the operator or the system automatically identifying the risk condition, appropriate voice message is selected and played to warn the operator about the risk.

[0006]               In another embodiment the invention provides a method for preventing the risks caused by pinch-point between coil and magnet in an MRI operation.

[0007]               However the invention could be used with any medical equipment, where there exist a need to identify the risks involved in the medical equipment automatically.
