While there are many different types of software available which provide the different components that are common among collaborative software (a.k.a. groupware), I was unable to find a solution which provided all of the components required by a workload queue-based technical support team.

According to Wikipedia.org, "Collaborative software is software designed to help people involved in a common task achieve their goals. Collaborative software is the basis for computer supported cooperative work. Such software systems as email, calendaring, text chat, wiki belong in this category. It has been suggested that Metcalfe's law - the more people who use something, the more valuable it becomes - applies to such software."

Specifically, my team required a common, centralized tool that we could use for:
Group calendaring - Full/Partial day absences, as well as individual time blocks throughout the day

TeamVue is Notes/Domino based, so the design of the application takes on a modular approach. Each function of the application resides under separate areas called 'Facilities'. Because the facilities are modular, they can be setup to be as separate or interconnected as necessary. The Facilities in the latest release, v 4.6 are Calendar, Information, User, Survey and Admin.

A low level breakdown of each Facility and the functions it provides for the user are as such:

Knowledge base - General knowledge, how-tos, team/department specific information, project

Process standardization - Operations documentation & related feedback/input to improve efficiency

Measurements - A method to gather up all of the above 4 requirements to generate automatic reports

for management

As a result, the TeamVue application was created to provide all of the above and more in a customizable, scalable, user-friendly package.

All of the above functionality exists in various places -- however, the tools that are/were available have some show-stopping limitations. Namely, the items that facilitated the creation of TeamVue are:
