Abstract

When people use computers, they often need to change the brightness, contrast of the screen when they use different applications for a better user experience. Usually, people prefer less bright screen when doing editing work with application like WORD, but when they play video games or watch videos, they would probably prefer brighter screen. In this scenario, people have to change screen brightness by hand every time they switch between applications. If the user leave the brightness or contrast unchanged, he/she could not get the most comfortable experience using computers. Our invention aimed to provide a method to help people be free of these screen setting works and automatically adjust displays' attributes (brightness, contrast etc) according to users’ favor when they switch between different applications.

Background:

When people use computers, they often need to change the brightness, contrast of the screen when they use different applications for a better user experience. Usually, people prefer less bright screen when doing editing work with application like WORD, but when they play video games or watch videos, they would probably prefer brighter screen.

In the above scenario, people have to change screen brightness by hand every time they switch between applications. If the user leave the brightness or contrast unchanged, he/she could not get the most comfortable experience using computers.

Our invention aimed to provide a method to help people be free of these screen setting works when they switch between different applications.

This solution is mostly used in video game software. When the player play open the game, it will be set to full screen and the screen will be set brighter. When the player exits the game, the screen will be set back to original bright.

This method could be just used to adjust brightness between the two modes of a certain application. Users could not set brightness levels for these two modes, nor they could choose which application has such function because this is implemented in some applications not for the whole system.

2) environment based adjust method


This type of solution often implemented by adding a sensor to the device with LCD displays. With the sensor, it could tell whether it is dark or light aound the display and adjust the brightness level of screen accordingly.

This method is useful when the device is moved a lot. But when the computer or something is used in a relatively fixed place for a period of time, and the light condition is relatively stable, the brightness of the screen will keep unchanged due to the sensor.

The fact is that users prefer different brightness or other screen atrributes for different kind of applications. Our method could save users preference set for each application and automatically set the screen to their perferred brightness level when they open the application or bring the application window to top.

Core idea:

Our solution is applicable for multi-windows OS in PC, PDA and smart phones.

   The invention provides a method to automatically adjust displays' attributes (brightness, contrast etc) according to users' favor whenever they switch between applications.

Our solution monitors currently used application. All the preferred screen attributes will be set when a new application is opened or user switch from one application to another one.
