Abstract

This disclosure defines a service offering and system to centrally manage an end to end software life-cycle service (SLS) solution. This one stop shop offered on the Internet to the public allows an individual or business to centrally manage their software. This offering could be marketed as a utility model / monthly fee service and reward users with discounts or free offerings for consumer loyalty.

System and Method for Software Lifecycle Service

All computer users use many different software products in their business and personal lives. These products all have different licensing requirements and fees associated with them. Software products all have different ways to obtain upgrades and pay maintenance fees. Moving software and related data from one computing device to another is difficult and may violate licensing agreements. Keeping track of all this software and variables associated with it is extremely time-consuming and too complex for most users. There are no known integrated solutions to help an individual or business manage all these aspects of software that they deal with.

This disclosure defines a service offering and system to centrally manage an end to end software services solution. This one stop shop offered on the Internet to the public allows an individual or business to centrally manage their software. This offering could be marketed as a utility model / monthly fee service and reward users with discounts or free offerings for consumer loyalty.

Software Life-Cycle Service (SLS) is intended to be developed using Services Oriented Architect (SOA) constructs. All SLS engines, logic processors and databases will pass data using an open standard such as XML.

The advantages to the consumer of this service include:

Customer knows all the software they are using is legal as all licenses are managed centrally. One distribution/management interface to manage all of their software on all of their computing devices.

Off-site secure storage and tracking of customers software and data ensures software portability from machine to machine.

Off-site backups ensure data can be restored in case of hardware failure.

Automatically keeps software up to date.

Novelty:
1) Unique business process method offering a complete software lifecycle service on the Internet to individuals, households and businesses.
2) The SLS service scans the users machine to determine what software is compatible prior to purchase.
3) Online backup and restore of physical drive to be shipped to customer.
4) Migrate from one OS to another and convert all application data to new OS.
5) Clone one machine in a household to another and manage software licenses in SLS database
6) Usage monitor process for legal software and ability to change products for less cost when a product is seldom used.
