Abstract

There is a need within the mobile phone technology space to enable a user to record and store voice conversations. However, in order to accomplish this the source mobile has to provide the receiving mobile permission to record the conversation. Another issue that presents itself when discussing the recording of the conversations on a mobile device is storage of the conversations. Mobile devices while currently expanding the storage capacities still do not have the storage capacities of a standard computer. A voice history solution has been developed within the mobile phone environment. The voice history solution provides a user the ability to record voice conversations, with the permission of all parties, and to manage the storage of the mobile device. The solution provides a simple UI to allow the recording of the conversation and also to prompt a user to a storage issue.

Voice History in Windows

Mobile

There is a need within the mobile phone technology space to enable a user to record and store voice conversations.  However, in order to accomplish this the source mobile has to provide the receiving mobile permission to record the conversation.  If and only if both parties agree will the conversation be recorded.  Another issue that presents itself when discussing the recording of the conversations on a mobile device is storage of the conversations.  Mobile devices while currently expanding the storage capacities still do not have the storage capacities of a standard computer.  Thus, requiring a user to keep track of the amount of storage remaining for future conversations.  A voice history solution has been developed within the mobile phone environment.

There are two main features of this solution: privacy protection and storage reminders.  Privacy of mobile phone users should be protected and therefore before the recording of a conversation takes place, the other mobile user receives a request or an alert.  If the other mobile user accepts the request the voice conversation may be recorded.  Another feature of this solution is storage reminders.  Since mobile devices are limited on storage capacity, a user may request to record a conversation that the device does not have sufficient space to store.  In the event thatone of these recordings will cross the storage threshold, the mobile user is prompted and provided an option on how to proceed.

The voice history solution can be used in many different situations.  For example, the solution could be used as an good voice history collector.  The solution may also be used to provide proof a specific voice conversation.  This situation could be very useful with preventing crimes or aiding in the law enforcement.  Another situation where this solution could be used is to recollect the recorded messages and tasks.

An exemplary process of the described recording solution is described below and illustrated above in Figure 1.  First, mobile user A places a call to mobile user B.  Mobile user B accepts the call from mobile user A and the conversation begins.  Mobile user A would like to record the conversation and selects an option within user A’s mobile device.  User B receives an alert or a request to provide consent to record the conversation.  An example of the user interface (UI) that might be shown on a user device is illustrated in Figure 2.  If user B accepts the request to record the conversation then a request is sent to mobile user A’s mobile device.  If user A also accepts the r...
